WE ARE MINISTERING TO INTERNATIONALS AT KENT STATE UNIVERSITY

For the first time ever, more than one million college students from abroad are studying on U.S. campuses.  International students offer an opportunity to reach the whole world. It’s hard to point to a demographic that’s more important or more strategic.  Kent State University has over 3,000 international students from over 100 countries.

WHY INTERNATIONAL STUDENT MINISTRY

Jesus commanded His followers to "Go and make disciples of all nations."  The gospel is meant to be shared with all people in every country.

The vision of International Student Ministry is to see the Gospel moving among the millions of people represented by the family, friends, and co-workers of the international sojourners who come to the United States to study. We are trusting God for a stream of lay men and women who will return home to impact their family and relational networks, touching every facet of society and the world.

International students are uniquely gifted to reach the world because they:

  • Speak at least two languages fluently
  • Know their own culture well
  • Are future leaders and respected for their education
  • Already have many relationships underway back home
  • Do not need visas to go to their own countries
  • Can open doors for foreign “tentmakers”

As these students come to know Christ, are discipled, and return home, they become missionaries in their own right. But instead of reaching a people foreign to them, they are reaching their friends and family.

Reaching and discipling international students is possibly the most strategic mission in God’s Kingdom today for fulfilling the Great Commission.

Many internationals at Kent State come from unreached places identified in the picture below.
